Randall Herold

Randall B. Herold founded Antelope Dancer in 1976. While a student at Hartwick College in upstate NY, Randall designed a senior project to research the way of living on the Navajo Reservation. There he began an apprenticeship in Dineh craftsmanship, including moccasin making and silversmithing, weaving and basket making. He returned to upstate New York and established a studio making custom shoes and boots. Eventually, he dedicated his skill to handbags. The geometry, color, and texture of his designs accentuate the human form and reveal a symbiotic bond with Nature and respect for landscape and life.

Antelope Dancer uses the finest vegetable-tanned cowhides – woven, embossed, hand-painted, silk-screened, tipped and edged. Goatskin is used for gusset and trim and domestic cowhide for lining. Most of the materials are from stock used in Italian boot industry, a testimony to Antelope Dancer’s origins. Details include antlers, camel bones, buffalo horns, semi-precious stones, hardwoods, beads, silver buckles, and Asian and African artifacts. Antelope Dancer’s distinctive forms boldly integrate contemporary fashion- the sleek and polished- with primordial impulse- the organic and practical. Each piece is unique and individually crafted, brought to the public eye for lovers of art that is made to wear.
