BAABAAZUZU

Every baabaazuzu wearable has had a previous life. Some came to them as old wool sweaters. Some were worn wool blankets. Whatever their origin, they were soon transformed into something beautiful and wholly unique by Sue Burns, baabaazuzu founder and lead designer and her team.

How do they work our magic? First, they wash each blanket or garment in a custom made, industrial washing machine on a very high heat. They then dry each in a custom dryer, also on a very high heat. This process (called “felting”) greatly shrinks the material into a dense woolen fabric. How tightly woven the fabric is, its weight, stiffness, etc. all determine the final calling for the felted fabric – whether it be a hat, a jacket or a bag.

The fabric is then cut into different shapes, giving us a wide range of ever changing shapes, colors and patterns from which to craft our clothing. The possibilities are endless. And the results are nothing short of magical.
